Brigade

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How can I play?
Download and install the Brigade client from the Downloads page. Once installed, launch it and connect to brigade.metaforge.net on port 2223.
What is the Brigade client?
The Brigade client installs on your computer and connects directly to the Metaforge game server. Once installed, you will see a Marshal icon on your desktop — just double-click it to launch. It is also available from your Start menu under Programs.
I just downloaded the client but it won't connect. What's wrong?
Be sure to set the server to brigade.metaforge.net. Port should be set to 2223.
How do I get started and get a password?
Read the Introduction page for step-by-step instructions. When you create a new account, we send a link to set your own password — make sure to use a valid email address.
Do I have to pay to play? Is Brigade free?
Play is completely free, with no time limit. Anyone can create a free account and play as much as they want, forever. Registering is optional and unlocks extra features for players who want them — it doesn't affect how much you can play.
Do I have to give my credit card number to create an account?
No. Simply create an account with a username and email address. You only need to provide payment information when you are ready to subscribe.
I want to cancel my subscription — how do I do it?
Email us at brigade@metaforge.net and we will cancel your subscription promptly.
Why hasn't my password arrived yet?
We no longer email passwords, for security. When you create an account or reset your password, we send a link so you can set your own password instead. Check your inbox (and spam folder) for that email. Still nothing after a few minutes? Email us at brigade@metaforge.net and we'll sort it out.
Are there rules of conduct for the site?
Yes. The rules are posted here.
Can I play against other people online?
Yes — that is the whole point! Connect, find an open game or create your own, and play against opponents from around the world.
Can I play against the computer?
Yes, we have several computer players (called “bots”) on the site. Their names start with ProbeBot followed by a number, such as ProbeBot1.
How are the rankings calculated?
RPI is a weighted average of your win percentage, your opponents' win percentage, and your opponents' opponents' win percentage. KRACH is a non-linear ranking system originally invented to rank college hockey teams and is the official ranking of the site. ELO is the classic chess-style rating system.
Can I have more than one account?
You may have more than one account only if all of your accounts are separately registered. Having any unregistered account alongside a registered one is a violation of the license agreement. Any user found to have multiple accounts without a separate subscription for each will have all accounts immediately terminated.
Can I change my account name or reset my record?
We do not change account names. If you are a registered user and wish to reset your record, log in to your profile page and click the “Reset Record” button.
Who or what is MarshalBot?
MarshalBot is an automated chat bot. To talk to him, highlight his name, type your message, and click “Transmit”. His cousins, the ProbeBots, actually play games; he does not.
I have a suggestion or question not answered here — who do I contact?
Send us a note at brigade@metaforge.net — we love hearing from players.

We hope you enjoy the game, and remember to register!
